Inclusion By Design

At the Children’s Museum of Sound & Color, we believe creativity belongs to everyone. We recognize that each child experiences the world in their own way.

That’s why we’re creating sensory-friendly spaces, offering noise-cancelling headphones, and designing exhibits that balance excitement with calm. Every visitor should feel comfortable, supported, and free to explore at their own pace.

At the Children’s Museum of Sound & Color, accessibility isn’t an afterthought — it’s part of our foundation. Here’s how we plan to make our museum a space that we can all enjoy:

Sensory-Friendly Hours

Designated times will be offered for visitors that require sensory modified environments. This includes rotating times for visually impaired and hearing impaired children in specific exhibits to create more controlled environments for their exploration. For visitors who prefer a calmer environment, we also plan to include sensory friendly hours with softer lighting, reduced sound, and smaller crowds. These specialty hours will give families an option to explore our galleries in ways that give caregivers and children more freedom and less stress.

Adaptive Tools

To help every child fully participate, we plan to provide tactile maps, sensory guides, and adaptive art and musical instruments. Sound enhancement tool options such as infrared systems, audio over WiFi, and personal amplifiers will also be assessed as we build exhibits. For sensory sensitive visitors or anyone who would like to experience our museum with less noise, we plan to provide noise cancelling headphones, available to borrow at the front desk as supplies last and available for purchase in our gift shop.

Inclusive Exhibits

While many exhibits will be inclusive by design, additional adaptations will be implemented to welcome every child. This includes adjustable-height activity tables for wheelchair users, tactile panels and textured art materials for children who are blind or have low vision, and visual rhythm lights for children who are deaf or sensitive to sound.

Trained Staff

Once in a physical location, we plan to train staff to be knowledgable and ready to assist with accessibility needs, sensory adjustments, or exhibit guidance.

Physical Access

Exhibits, restrooms, and play areas will be wheelchair and stroller accessible, ensuring guests can explore freely and safely.

Growing Together

Accessibility is a journey, and we’re always learning. We welcome ideas, feedback, and collaboration from our visitors to help make the Children’s Museum of Sound & Color even more inclusive. Together, we can build a museum where every child can create, play, and belong.
