behind the Museum

The Children's Museum of Sound & Color began with the idea to bridge the gap between traditional art museums and children's museums. While fine art museums preserve extraordinary works, their galleries are often designed for quiet observation rather than hands-on exploration. Children's museums inspire curiosity across many subjects but rarely devote an entire environment to art and music education. We set out to create a space that combines the hands-on, child friendly mindset of the children’s museum with the culture of a traditional art museum; a space where visitors can paint, compose, experiment, discover, and connect through creative play.

As the vision grew, so did the commitment to inclusion. Accessibility has been part of the museum's mission from the very beginning, with a focus on creating experiences that welcome children of all abilities, including those who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or have low vision. Our founding organization members believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover, create, and experience the joy of art and music in a space where everyone belongs.
